Stripe: HSA and FSA Cards
Some HSA and FSA cards will be declined if Stripe or the issuing bank doesn't recognize the charges as healthcare related. By default, Sessions Health sets up a business classification to allow HSA and FSA cards during your account integration, however, some circumstances result in Stripe not recognizing that classification. Please see this article for more details and contact Stripe to ensure your account is setup to receive HSA and FSA cards.
It is possible that your Merchant Card Code (MCC) needs updated in Stripe. Stripe may have classified you as 7277 - Debt, Marriage, Personal-Counseling Service. Some banks may not accept that MCC as an eligible HSA/FSA transaction and will decline the card.
One alternative is to contact Stripe if you feel your MCC code should be assigned as 8099 - Medical Services and Health Practitioners. You may contact Stripe to request to change your MCC to 8099 and confirm you're setup to accept HSA/FSA cards.
If you are unsure of what MCC Stripe assigned to your Stripe account, you can contact Sessions Health Customer Support and we can look it up.
Note: Even if your account is setup to receive HSA and FSA cards, some banks may still decline the charge for their own reasons. Your client may need to contact their banking institution to understand why their card is being declined.
