We're currently Beta-testing AI Notes using session summaries. We'll soon offer options to record and transcribe your in-person sessions, your integrated telehealth sessions, and upload audio files to generate your notes. Getting started with AI Notes
To get started, simply navigate to Account Settings > AI, and click the Get Started button.
If you are the account owner, you'll be prompted to sign the Terms and Conditions - Addendum for Artificial Intelligence-Enhanced Service(s). Once signed, AI Notes is enabled on your account!
Now that AI Notes are enabled on your account, you can enable AI Notes for any team members on the same Account Settings > AI page.

Note: Only members with Administrator access can enable AI Notes for the account and for individual practitioners.
Configuring your AI Notes settings
Each practitioner can configure their own AI Notes settings to how they want their notes generated. To configure your settings, go to Account Settings > AI and click the Settings icon.
You will then be guided through a settings module to set up your AI Notes preferences. The first page allows you to Copy from another user, if another user has AI Notes enabled.
Configure terminology
Or, you can continue to set your own terminology preferences for the term you use for your clients (ex. Client, Patient, Individual) and how you would like to be referred as (ex. Practitioner, Clinician, Therapist, Coach).
Configure therapy approaches
Next, you can select the therapy approach or approaches you use. This will be set as the default approach or approaches when AI Notes are generated. Each practitioner can select multiple therapy approaches, if needed.
Configure verbosity and pronouns
Next, you may configure the verbosity of how your notes are generated to be concise, intermediate, or detailed. Optionally, you can include pronouns in your generated notes if they exist in the client's chart.
Add custom note instructions (optional)
Lastly, you may add any custom note instructions to fine-tune your preference for how AI-generated notes are written. Custom note instructions will be considered for each AI note generated.
Once configured, you're ready to generate AI Notes!
AI Notes templates and customizations
Once the account is enabled with AI Notes, four note templates are automatically added to your practice forms in Forms & Documents > Forms > My Forms. These are SOAP Note, DAP Note, BIRP Note, and Narrative Note.
You may also add customizations to your AI note templates, just like your non-AI note templates. For instance, by clicking into the note template, you may add exact start time and end time fields to your AI-generated SOAP Note. In the example below, the Summary element is the AI Note element, which will appear after the Exact Start Time and Exact End Time elements.
Generating AI Notes from a session summary
When clicking on the Notes section of an appointment, first choose what AI note template you'd like to use from the drop-down list.
Next, write a summary of the session. Include at least a few sentences. The more information you provide, the better your response will be. If you previously provided a note summary, you could click Load from Previous Summary to pre-populate what you wrote in the last summary. When complete, click the Generate Note button.
Note: You do not need to provide any information in the summary regarding the CPT code, the client's diagnosis, treatment plan, MSE, previous note, next appointment date, or specify if the client is an adult, minor, or conjoint client. Those are already incorporated into your AI-generated note.
Your response will be returned in a few moments for you to review and edit.
If you'd like to further edit the output, you can click on the magic wand in the bottom right corner to edit.
Sharing your feedback
Once the AI note is generated, we'd love to hear your feedback on how well it did. Your comments will help improve our AI notes to make it even better. To provide feedback, click How did we do? below the generated note. Score us from 1 star to 5 stars, then provide any helpful comments.
Sending clients a Client Consent for AI Documentation form
Sessions Health has a draft consent form you can edit and send to your clients. To enable the consent form, go to Forms & Documents > Forms > My Forms page, then click the + Add button next to Consent. You can select the Client Consent for AI Documentation form. We recommend editing the consent form to align with your practice policies and state laws.
Note: Only members with Administrator access or with the Forms Administrator role can add and edit consent forms.
Pre-Session Summary
Our new AI-powered Pre-Session Summary feature is designed to support mental health providers as they prepare for upcoming client sessions. It offers a concise, intelligently generated overview of recent client activity, including session notes, assessments, and treatment plans. This can make it easier to quickly get up to speed, which is especially helpful on busy days or when reconnecting with a client after a break.
How to Access Pre-Session Summaries
Getting a quick overview before your next session is simple. Here’s how to access the AI-generated pre-session summary:
Step 1: Navigate to your Calendar
Head to your calendar from the main navigation—this is where you’ll see all your scheduled appointments.
Step 2: Click on an Upcoming Appointment
Select any upcoming client session from your calendar to open the appointment details.
Step 3: Look for the Green Banner
If there are completed notes from a previous session, you’ll see a green Pre-Session Summary banner at the top of the pop-up. This means a summary is available to generate.

Step 4: Click "Generate"
Simply click the Generate button, and the AI will pull together a brief overview of recent session history to help you prepare with ease.

Step 5: Review Your Summary
After you click Generate, your pre-session summary will be presented for your review. You can quickly scan recent highlights to feel prepared for the session.

Step 6: Share Your Feedback
After reviewing your summary, click the “How did we do?” link to let us know what you think. Your insights help us continue to improve this feature to better support your clinical work.
Please note: You will need to have at least one completed and signed session note for the Pre-Session Summary feature to generate properly.
