For Clients: Secure Messaging in the Client Portal

This article explains how to send and receive secure messages in the Client Portal. You’ll learn how to start a message, attach files, and delete messages.

ℹ️ Secure messaging in Sessions Health is encrypted and HIPAA-compliant.

In this article:


Accessing Secure Messaging


  1. Log in to the Client Portal.
  2. Click Messages in the top navigation.

You will see your message inbox, including any existing conversations.

💡 You can also send a message by selecting Message Your Provider at the bottom of your screen while logged in.


Sending a Message

🔔 Secure messaging is not for urgent or emergency needs. If you are in crisis or need immediate help, contact emergency services or follow the emergency instructions your practitioner has provided.

To send a secure message:

  1. Click the new message icon or open an existing conversation from the left panel.
  2. Select your practitioner in the To field.
  3. Type your message.
  4. Click the send icon (arrow).

💡 Read receipts show when a message has been delivered and read. A gray check mark means delivered, and two green check marks mean read.


Attaching a File to a Message


  1. Open a new or existing message.
  2. Click the paperclip icon.
  3. Select a file from your device.
  4. Click Send.
